Mission to Guatemala 2007 - The begining

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

In 2005 we began the long adoption process of our daughter Rylee from Guatemala . During that time I had visited Rylee several times and I know that those visits with her made her transition so much easier for her when we brought her home. We brought Rylee home in September of 2005, since then I felt a strong urgency to do something to help the orphaned children of Guatemala .

I had been praying and searching since March of this year to find where I should devote my time. I had come across many worthwhile organizations but the one that is closest to my heart is a small orphanage Casa Hogar Feliz, in San Andres , Guatemala . Its Director is a Norwegian lady named Unn-Lisbet Jensen-Muj (Elizabeth). She has dedicated her life to these 16 un-adoptable children. These children are either abandoned or have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect. The orphanage is not financed by any international organizations; it has particular persons who support the house with voluntary contributions. These contributions are used the best way possible with the purpose of guaranteeing good function of the house and health of the children.

I have located a few other women that feel as strong as I do about the orphan children of Guatemala and we have set up a mission trip for this December 5th through the 9th. Our mission will be to give these 16 children a Christmas they will never forget. These children have not had the opportunity to celebrate Christmas or their birthdays. We have many plans for the children’s celebration. The orphans are in need many things but we would like add to the list and give the children a little something they want for Christmas as well.

So, now we need money to make this dream happen. We are all involved in fundraisers to earn money for this mission; however, we will need your help as well to make this mission a success. Right now we are looking for people to help us financially. These children have been through so much in their young lives. Please help us make this happen for them. I hope that you could help in this mission by asking for donations of some sort during one of your church services. I believe that with God and your help our financial needs will be met.

I have been in contact with Elizabeth and she has given me a list of all 16 children’s names, ages, clothing sizes and I have photos of 14 of the children. The children request the typical dolls, soccer balls, toy cars, puzzles and books.

I pray is that this trip proves to be life changing for these children of Casa Hogar Feliz even more than for myself.
